FROM HARWICH TO HAIFA AND BACK
PIP MARPLES AND CHRIS TEMPLE
We start our year on Monday 5 January with a fascinating presentation about a voyage to Israel and back in the 1960’s by dinghy sailors! When David Marples, Cambridge academic and Enterprise dinghy sailor, mooted the idea of a sabbatical year in Israel in 1969, little did his family and friends know that he planned to buy a boat and to sail there and back. This is the story of that sloop, Mollihawk IV, her passage to Israel in 1968 - and the return passage a year later at the end of David’s sabbatical year. Two of the crew, Pip Marples and family friend Chris Temple, tell us the tale.
Come to hear about the purchase of that yacht, setting out from the Stour estuary and the highs and the lows, the wonderful moments as well as the trials and tribulations of these two Mediterranean voyages - and unexpected outcomes for both crew members.
The attached poster gives more details of the evening. POSTER HERE
It promises to be a most interesting evening - we look forward to seeing lots of members there.
