Hamble Rally 15 October 2016

There was a reasonable turnout for the last rally of the season with 12 ROSC members - and two parrots - taking part.

Only one boat made it to Bursledon, but there was some good sailing to be had on
Skippers’ Rhapsody with light winds in pleasant autumn sunshine en route from Gosport to Bursledon – and livelier conditions for the return passage on Sunday with winds of force 6-7, gusting near gale force.  However flattish seas and a beam reach made for an exhilarating but pleasant passage home.

We berthed at the Elephant Boatyard – quirky and slightly ramshackle, but full of character and boasting some lovely classic yachts on view in adjacent moorings.  And very handy for the pub!

More members joined us by car for a slightly damp afternoon walk to the upper reaches of the Hamble followed by drinks and nibbles on
Skippers’ Rhapsody where the antics of the two talking parrots, Kevin and Peter, kept us all amused.  Supper at ‘The Jolly Sailor’ was convivial, suitably nautical and we were well looked after there.

All in all a great weekend and a fitting end to ROSC’s sailing season.
